About INIG

The Oil and Gas Institute is one of the oldest science and research institutes in Poland. Its almost 60 year-old history begins with the establishing of the Oil Institute in Krosno on 7 th January 1945, which immediately became actively involved in the service of the national oil and gas mining industry. On 31 st December, 1975, the Oil Institute and the Gas Institute merged forming the Oil and Gas Institute. It is a successful, well-equipped scientific unit close to the gas and oil mining and gas industry; it has the potential to carry out efficiently  basic research, development, and implementation work; it is involved in solving all problems of the industry, and contributes to the Polish scientific output.

The Institute's research scope comprises all stages of natural gas fuel chain, prospecting for and mining oil, environmental protection and renewable energy in particular:

         assessment of exploration prospects in various regions of the country;

         assessment of geological, mineable and indu-strial deposits of oil and natural gas;

         drilling technology;

         technology of drilling fluids and cementing oil wells;

         management and mining of natural gas and oil deposits;

         hydrocarbon production stimulation;

         simulation of deposit processes and under-ground gas storage;

         technology of well reconstruction;

         use of microbiological methods and means

         evaluation of plastic materials used in gas industry;

         technical evaluation of gas pipe fittings and gas metering systems;

         evaluation and quality control of hydrocarbon fuels;

         technical and quality evaluation of hydrocar-bon-fuelled appliances;

         new technologies of gas use;

         environmental protection issues in the oil and gas industry;

         renewable energy (LFG landfill gas).

At present time Oil and Gas Institute has 242 employees. Presently it comprises 22 science-research departments with 23 specialistic laboratories, independent research scientist position, Certification Office, Standardization and Technical Approvals Department, Science-Technical Information Department and administration departments.

 Departament of Renewable Energy Technologies deals:

  • design and construct degassing installations for utilisation of landfill gas;
  • prepare the landfill gas production prognosis and perform the gas flow tests for verification of gas production forecast;
  • cost assessment of landfill site construction projects and degasification of municipial landfills.

Participation of INiG in REDUBAR project:

  • Leader WP 02: Technological and non-technological evaluation of heating, cooling and power generation from biogas;
  • Co-operating partner in: WP 03, WP 04, WP 07, WP 08, WP 09, WP 10;
  • Contributing to the effective work of the steering committee;
  • Cooperating in common dissemination activities realized in IEE Project.
