Quantification of the potential for increasing the use of biogas for heating and cooling by liquidation the bottleneck: "barriers for the transportation of biogas in the natural gas grid"

Lead participant: FEE

To meet the binding target of a 20 % share of renewable energy sources in energy consumption in all Member States (MS) of the European Union (EU), the Commission and the Parliament proposed a “Directive on promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources”. Both, energy efficiency (EE) and application of renewable energy resources (RES), have to be tackled urgently and efficiently. Already now, at a relatively low level of utilization the biomass as one of the most important RES has become a valuable commodity competing as energy carrier with food, feed and material applications, some of them with energetic relevance, too. For its versatility of energy conversion into electrical power, heat, cold, biofuel and the ability of energy storage as well as the property of binding and using carbondioxid for biomass growth, efficiency of its usage has become a key factor of importance. . .
